Klymit Static V2 Sleeping Pad

From Klymit: Weighing in at just a pound with ample sleeping area and a tiny packed volume, the Klymit Static V2 sleeping pad delivers sleeping comfort, a compact size, light weight and ease of use. Raised V-shaped chambers maximize loft and warmth, creating comfortable loft pockets that support the body's pressure points; and side rails keep you centered on the pad through the night.

From Nick: Sleeping pads are one of the more underrated components of sleeping well while camping. A comfortable pad can mean the difference between a great nights’ sleep and a night of restless and uncomfortable tossing and turning. Sleeping pads are also a critical component of warmth: cold ground sucks your body heat away as quickly as cold air does, and so getting off the ground and having a cushion of insulating warm air below you can help keep you warm even when sleeping on top of snow.

This sleeping pad remains my go-to, and has helped me have many comfortable nights while on long backpacking trips. I bought it just before a week-long backpacking trip in Canyonlands National Park, where we were sleeping on sand (surprisingly uncomfortable to sleep on) and hard rock in late October. We took turns sleeping on each others’ pads to find our favorite, and this won hands-down. It packs down to the size of a Nalgene bottle, and comes with a patch kit in case it gets punctured.

Sleeping pads are graded on an R-value scale, with higher numbers providing more insulation. This pad has an R-value of 1.3, which makes it best for adventures in warm weather - but I’ve used it in temps as cold as 15 degrees and been comfortable.
